The dangers of the modern diet

Modern diets have degenerated into high calories, low-to-no nutrients, very little fiber, and dangerously high levels of sweeteners. These quickly digested “foods” flood the bloodstream, causing insulin levels to soar.  High levels of insulin are associated with increased inflammation. Recent research indicates that inflammation is at the root of all chronic diseases. Excess blood sugar and insulin surges eventually lead to chronic problems like diabetes and cardiovascular damage. In addition, high blood sugar and insulin often play a pivotal role in the following problems: hypertension and kidney damage, weak and brittle vessels and veins, and a number of serious chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease.

One noticeable symptom of excessive insulin and high blood sugar is abdominal obesity. About two-thirds of American adults are overweight. One third are clinically obese. This condition also increases your risk for heart disease, cholesterol imbalance, cancer, female infertility, and gallstones. Excess insulin and high blood sugar create a vicious cycle. You crave simple carbohydrates because they enter the blood quickly. Then, a surplus of insulin is produced which causes more hunger. In response to hunger, you eat more. Overeating causes more body fat to accumulate and it activates more insulin. This merry-go-round of insulin spikes leaves you tired, hungry, and unfocused.

Restore balance with balance complete™

Balance Complete is an energizing, superfood shake high in a proprietary fiber blend called V-Fiber™. Research from the Life Extension Foundation shows that fiber blends produce more viscosity (thickness and absorption) and are more effective than one type of fiber alone. Young Living’s cutting-edge blend of soluble and insoluble fiber (11 grams per serving ) is ideal for cleansing, weight-loss, and everyday health maintenance.* Ingredients found in this effective fiber blend have been shown to help maintain normal blood sugar levels.* As the fiber mixes with water, it swells in the intestines, providing bulk that absorbs and removes toxins and excess fat from the digestive tract.* While some cleans amount of gas and bloating for some people. This is partially due to the fact that the average American diet lacks fiber. The American Food Nutrition board recommends a minimum of 38 grams for men and 25 grams for women. Typical Americans eat only half that amount. If you experience gas or bloating, reduce the amount of Balance Complete and increase the dosage of Young Living’s progressive essential oil blend Digest + Cleanse.

Digest + cleanse

Did You Know?

+ There are more than fifty known hormones released into the body, all of which need to work synergistically to preserve a balanced and thriving system

+ The hypothalamus manufactures hormones that promote other glands and systems to begin working or inhibit them in doing so.

+ The adrenals are vital in secreting cortisol, DHEA, estrogen and/or testosterone in response to stress. Poor adrenal health in women destabilizes the body’s ability to transition through the changes in a female’s life span and over productive adrenals lead to an excess of cortisol levels

+ Persistent high levels of cortisol can raise levels of estrogen which hinder the uptake of thyroid hormones and leads to a decline of DHEA.

+ Cortisol is essential in stabilizing glucose metabolism, cardiovascular functions, and immune system hormones.

+ Ovaries produce progesterone which assists in thyroid function and in bone building.

+ Estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, and cortisol are all regarded as libido hormones.

+ Too much estrogen will lead to low levels of testosterone which decreases a woman’s sex drive.

Thieves essential oil blend was created based on the historical account of four thieves in France who protected themselves from

the Black Plague with cloves, rosemary, and other aromatics while robbing victims of the killer disease. When captured, they were offered a lighter sentence in exchange for their secret recipe. Young Living’s proprietary Thieves oil blend includes clove, cinnamon bark, rosemary, lemon, and Eucalyptus radiata and has been specially blended to offer the same kind of defense. Thieves has been university tested and found to be highly effective against airborne bacteria.1

Utilizing the power and protection of Thieves essential oil blend, Young Living created an extensive line of natural household products. From toothpaste and mouthwash to cleaning products, hand soaps, and even throat lozenges, the Thieves product line provides safe, natural alternatives for use in the home.

Raindrop Technique

The Raindrop Technique is a way essential oil are applied on the feet and along the spine. The Lakota legend it is based on tells of a tribal journey far north into Canada to witness the aurora borealis, or the northern lights. When they arrived, tribal members reached upward into he night sly while deeply inhaling the healing power from the dancing lights. The story is told that many were healed of various sicknesses and afflictions that night.

When borders were established between Canada and the Unites States, the Lakota cloud no longer travel north. Restricted to their reservations, they envisioned the healing lights while their bodies were lightly brushed or stroked. This action, combined with the memory of their previous healing experiences, served as a substitute to the restorative energy that they once enjoyed. This beautiful tradition is the inspiration for Young Living’s popular Raindrop Technique.

This energizing technique has been used for years as a highly effective method for balancing and rejuvenating the mind and the body. The essential oils found in Young Living’s Raindrop collection penetrate the skin and promote energy and vitality. When oils are properly applied to neck, back and feet, this technique can bring about electrical alignment and help relieve a variety of discomforts caused by imbalances in the body, especially those found in the spine.

What is in Your Personal Care Products?

Diethanolamine (DEA)

Do you know what is in your shampoos, conditioners, soaps, toothpastes, lotions, creams?

Diethanolamine, when applied to the skin, resulted in clear evidence of carcinogenic activity. “Diethanolamine was selected for evaluation because of its large-scale production and pattern of use indicate potential for widespread human exposure,” this is from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ National Toxicology Program - NTP TR 478. This study concluded in late 1997.

DEA, a known toxin in industrial application, but believed safe for personal care products in smaller amounts some time ago, has now been proven to cause cancer when applied to the skin of rats. As expected the cosmetic industry response is something like “has not been proven . . . in humans” or “our products are formulated within strict FDA guidelines”

Propylene Glycol

is a colorless viscous, hygroscopic liquid, used in anti-freeze solutions, in hydraulic fluids, and as a solvent. Also called “propanediol”. American Heritage Encyclopedia Dictionary

Propylene glycol is used in: Anti-Freeze, Brake and Hydraulic Fluid, De-Icer, Paints and Coatings, Floor Wax, Laundry Detergents.

Propylene Glycol also serves as a Humectant - a substance that helps retain moisture content, or simply - it prevents things from drying out.

Propylene Glycol: Implicated in contact dermatitis, kidney damage and liver abnormalities; can inhibit skin cell growth in human tests and can damage cell membranes causing rashes, dry skin and surface damage.
                                                                            Material Safety Data Sheets

A published clinical review showed propylene glycol causes a significant number of reactions and was primary irritant to the skin even in low levels of concentrations.
The American Academy of Dermatologists, Inc.; Jan’91

Acute Effects: May be harmful by inhalation, ingestion or skin absorption. May cause eye irritation, skin absorption. May cause eye irritation, skin irritation. Exposure can cause gastro-intestinal disturbances, nausea, headache and vomiting, central nervous system depression.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)

Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) is found in harsh detergents. Also, it’s used as a surfactant to break down the surface tension of water. Industrial uses include concrete floor cleaners, engine degreasers, car wash detergents.

What can SLS do to your organic tissue?

  • SLS can be a mutagen. In sufficient amounts it is capable of changing the information in genetic material found in cells.
  • SLS has been used in studies to induce mutations in bacteria.
  • SLS is routinely used in clinical studies to irritate skin tissue.
  • SLS corrode hair follicles and impairs ability to grow hair.
  • Carcinogenic Nitrates can form when SLS interact with other nitrogen bearing ingredients.
  • SLS enters and maintains residual levels in the heart, liver, lungs and brain from skin contact. (Shampoo?)
  • SLS denatures protein, impairs proper structural formation of young eyes - damage permanent.
  • SLS can damage the immune system; cause separation of skin layers and cause inflammation to the skin.

Journal of the American College of Toxicology; Vol. 2, No.7, 1983

SLS in Your Mouth

Sodium Laurel Sulfate is great for degreasers, and favorite of the toothpaste manufacturers. In fact, we found it in every brand we could find. These products are not intended to be swallowed. Does any SLS get into your system?
Many medications recommend placing a few drops under the tongue for best absorption . . . and the fastest, usually 30 seconds or less! This is the best place for absorption into the body. Do you think any toothpaste might get under your tongue when brushing? Especially, if you brush for a minute or two? Can SLS be absorbed? What about shampoo soaking on your noggin?

Lab Study

“Detergent Penetration into Young Adult Eyes, Research to Prevent Blindness”

                                                       K. Green, Ph.D., D.Sc.

This study reveals some of the most mopelling and alarming evidence indication that SLS should be avoided.

  • SLS is rapidly taken up and accumulated by eye tissue, and retained for up to 5 days.
  • SLS uptake is greater in young mammals.
  • SLS denature proteins of eye tissues - impairing development permanently.
  • SLS extends the healing time of the cornea surface to 10 days . . . far beyond the norm of 2 days.
  • Tissue of young eyes may be more susceptible to alternation by SLS.

Talc

Talc is a very fine substance, so fine it can be used as a “dry” lubricant. Talc is chemically similar to asbestos, a known cancer causing substance. Talk is found in many “body and baby” powders, feminine powders and many cosmetics. It’s also user as a lubricant in condoms.

How does Talc keep babies and your private parts so “fresh”? Presumably by clogging the pores that secrete those necessary fluids. Could those fine little articles manage to get into the system?

“Talc’s harmful effect on human tissue has been known for quite some time. Long ago, its dry lubricating properties were used as a glove-donning powder for surgical gloves. As early as the 1930s, Talc was linked to post-operative granulomatous peritonitis and fibrous adhesions.

Talc . . . ( on condoms) . . . may result in fallopian tube fibrosis with resultant infertility. Question raised by Doctors Kasper and Chandler in Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) 3/15/95″

                                                                  Nutrition Health Review, Summer 1995 n73 p8(1)

Alcohol

Alcohol is used in many forms in many products, not just beverages. Mouthwash is generally has a higher alcohol content than beer, wine and many liquors.

Mouthwash danger - Mouthwashes with an alcohol content of 25% or higher have been implicated in mouth, tongue and throat cancers. Alcohol acts as a solvent in the mouth making tissue more vulnerable to carcinogens. Men had 60% higher risk and women a 90% higher risk of these cancers, compared to those not using the mouthwash.

                                                                                National Cancer Institute 4/22/91

Aluminum

Aluminum is a metal, the third most common element in the environment, and a toxin in the body. You’ll find it in processed foods, antiperspirant, antacids, cosmetics, paper products, beverage cans, foil and cookware.

World Health Organization conducts study on chemical pollution and the elderly . . . “There is a suspected link between Alzheimer’s disease and the toxicity of aluminum . . . autopsies have found high concentrations of the metal in the brain of people who suffered from the disease.”
                                     Public Health Reports, Nov-Dec 1993 v108 n6, p798(2)

“Studies linking aluminum to Alzheimer’s disease . . . ‘The evidence is strong enough that prudent person will eliminate all food and cosmetic sources of aluminum and will use aluminum cooking utensils only if they’re coated,’ suggests Gary Price Todd, M.D, author Nutrition, Health and Disease”
                          Natural Health, May-June 1993 v23 n3 p54(2)

Dr Daniel Perl, Director of Neuropathology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, suggests, “. . . avoid aerosol antiperspirants. Aluminum in aerosol form may be more readily absorbed into the brain through nasal passages.”
The university of California, Berkley Wellness Letter, April 1993 v9 n7 p1(2)

“Aluminum-containing antiperspirants are designed to be absorbed, and studies show that regular use of these products can raise the risk of Alzheimer’s by as much as three-fold. (also) . . .  municipal water supplies treated with alum (aluminum sulfate) . . .  at least 7 studies show that people drinking water high in alum are more likely to develop Alzheimer’s.”
                        Natural Health, May-June 1993 v23 n3 p54(2)

Alzheimer’s disease is now the 4-th leading cause of death among the elderly, behind heart disease, cancer and stroke. A mere half century ago Alzheimer’s disease was virtually unheard of!

Essential Oils and Emotions

Discovering your emotional patterns

Exploring our individual emotional patterns is essential for maintaining good health. It’s vital to understanding who we are and why we react the way we do.

But what is an emotional pattern? Carolyn L. Mein, DC, author of Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils, suggests that an emotional pattern is a fear-based survival response, which can be identified by analyzing our feelings. These emotional patterns are located within our cellular memory and can impact the way we feel physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Typically, it’s negative emotions that interfere with our health and wellbeing. That is why it’s important to recognize our emotional patterns and how they make us feel. If an emotional pattern is negative, there are ways to “clear” that emotional pattern and foster positive thinking.

According to Mein, “Changing an emotional pattern takes more than just feeling both sides of the emotion. It takes recognizing and understanding the pattern that triggers the emotion, which is the mental aspect. It takes getting the message or learning the lesson by increasing awareness, which is the spiritual aspect. Changing the automatic conditioned response requires accessing the cellular memory that is stored in the physical body.”

By cleansing emotional patterns, we open ourselves up to changing who we are by experiencing something different. The result causes a person to become more open-minded and willing to explore different aspects of their personality.

To better understand your emotional patterns, create a journal of how you feel in various situations and circumstances. Take note of the occasion and your emotional response. Analyze what might have caused you to feel the way you did. Release the emotional pattern and reanalyze how you feel. Once you understand your emotional patterns and how to find your “way out”, you will be better able to cope with everyday situations that affect the emotional patterns driving your life.

To clear an emotional pattern, Mein has developed the following process for analyzing feelings:

  1. Identify the emotion so that it becomes part of your conscious awareness (such as anger).
  2. Once the emotion has been identified, try understanding the emotion and thought pattern that created it (what caused the emotion).
  3. Look at the “other side”, or positive expression, of the emotion you are feeling (laughter).
  4. Discover the “way out”, which is a statement of affirmation that shifts the energy from negative to positive. When you understand the “way out”, it is easier to shift out of an undesirable emotional state (repeat to yourself, “my direction is clear”).
  5. Release the pattern from the cellular memory by smelling the corresponding essential oil (see below) and applying it to the alarm points. Activate the oil by placing a drop in the palm of your non-dominant hand. With your other hand, stir the oil clockwise three times. Place on the designated alarm points (you are open to change).
